Training to use RTOP

• RTOP Training Web Site
  RTOP training via the internet is available. The RTOP is a valuable tool
  for teachers to self-assess their instruction. To see the video lessons and look at the evaluation forms, click on the
  'Using RTOP' picture in the Explore RTOP box on the RTOP Training Web Site , and follow the steps to video
  1, 2 and 3. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader and RealPlayer, not Windows
  Media Player for this site. Both are free and there are links for the
  downloads. High speed internet is preferred.

• Dan MacIsaac has developed a small website devoted to inquiry teaching methods that use the RTOP for evaluation. Also included on the site are a few introductory videos that can be used as a starting point for training to use the RTOP.
• The final report of the Arizona Collaborative for Excellence in the Preparation of Teachers includes information about the development of the RTOP, results obtained from the instrument and it's use in the evaluation of the ACEPT project.

Implementation Developer for Evaluation and Assessment (IDEA)

IDEA can be used to create and manage Observation Protocols for your Palm or iPAQ. RTOP is part of IDEA and is a pre-prepared Assessment.

For Palm

• Download IDEA Setup.exe and run the setup file to install IDEA.

For iPAQ

• Download and read IDEA Installation.doc for instructions on how to install IDEA on your IPAQ
• Download the zip file and extract it to 'c:\iPAQ\IDEA' (create the directories, if they don't exist)
• Follow the instructions as outlined in IDEA Installation.doc to continue with the setup
• Follow the instructions as outlined in IDEA Tool Manual.doc for getting the data from the database

Protocol Authoring/Manager Tool

• The authoring tool can be used to create and manage protocols (similar to RTOP) and upload them on to your Palm/iPAQ.
• Contact CRESMET to get a copy of the authoring tool.

Palm OS Handheld Implementation of Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol (RTOP)

• Download RTOP Setup.exe and run the setup file to install RTOP.
